Craziness
Author: BobR    Date: 06/14/2017 12:24:19

Yesterday Jeff Sessions took his elfin little self to Congress to testify. He spent the time being fawned over by Republicans and "conveniently" forgetting everything that happened when questioned by Democrats (and Republicans with a smidge of integrity). How does one get to that level in our government while managing to forget everything?

This morning, there was a shooting at a ball field about a mile from our house. It's located between a YMCA and the dog park where we take our dogs. There was a congressional softball team practicing that were the apparent targets. According to news reports, "dozens of shots" were fired, injuring four people. One of them was House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA); another one apparently was a security officer. The shooter is supposedly in custody. I am certain this story will develop more fully throughout the day.

We are heading for Minneapolis this morning for HomebrewCon. Perhaps this was the right time to get out of dodge while all this craziness seems to ramp up ever more each day.

Well, if you mean being dead as being in custody, you're right.

I'll give it a few days for the gunman's history to be investigated...but I've been told STAY AWAY FROM THE FOX NEWS CHATS!!!!!!

So one of the things I heard on TOP this morning was that Moe Brooks called into a radio station in Louisiana to report the shooting - um why?

Because Scalise is a LA congressman?

I mean why call the media right out of the gate. Seemed a little callous.

This is surreal.

This is all too surreal.

As a near professional level asshole, do you know how hard it is for my not make snarky comments about this?

Mornin' all..

Not to be mean during this time of tragedy, but the words that come to mind are "hoisted by his own petard".

About as hard it is for me not to fashion a fancy tinfoil hat with some of the reports from congress critters.

Obviously I hope and pray that everyone is going to be ok. But so far its gone from reports of a rifle to a semi automatic to lots of ammo. Pretty soon they will be warding off Loki and his goons.

Scoop, you have broken my floodgates. Where were all the "good guys with guns?" Virginia is concealed carry state. Why weren't all these gun loving Republicans packing? Are they going start banging the gong for stricter gun control now?

Ahhh. I feel better. Now that I have let the bilious snark out I can be properly sympathetic.

And now I hear that the gunman is still alive.

So I fail to adhere to my initial statement, to say nothing until things get settled a bit.

Well at the very least there was a minimum detail of Capitol Police on site. But they were completely outmatched - this guy fired 50+ shots in a few seconds from an AR-15. The problem here isn't the lack of police presence but THE FUCKING ASSAULT RIFLES IN THE HANDS OF PEOPLE WHO SHOULDNT FUCKING HAVE THEM!!!!

Scoop, you are missing my irony here.

I am sorry to learn about the shooting. As soon as I heard, I was worried for Bob, Raine, and the pups in addition to the members of Congress and the police officers.

I am tired of violence in our culture. I live in the shadows of a major city, where there are neighborhoods where there are fatal shootings each weekend.

Comment by Will in Chicago on 06/14/2017 14:01:24
The problem with the Libertarian argument on gun control is that it is far easier to get an AR-15 than a teaching license. (I have yet more paperwork to deal with on a new license.) Also, at the risk of sounding cynical, the only thing that limits some people from doing as they will is the existence of laws.

Comment by TriSec on 06/14/2017 14:02:32
Clearly, it's the end times. I didn't hear about the shooting until later. I've been astounded by the fire in London.

Comment by wickedpam on 06/14/2017 14:42:22
Congressional accounts of Shooting

What I got from that was Mo Brooks is an ass and good on Flake for getting in contact with Scalise's wife asap.

No, Scoop, a hearing was canceled. You know these fuckers will quietly bring this back later.

Yeah probably.. which is pretty fucked up. One of their colleagues was stricken as a result of their blatant inaction and their response so far has been 'EVIL VIOLENT DEMOCRATS MUST PAY'
