With the latest news about Matt Lauer and Garrison Keillor, it seems like the news is a constant stream of men behaving badly. That and the tax bills floating in the turd bowl of the Congress are all we seem to ever hear about. Yes, both issues are bad, and yes both deserve our attention. Meanwhile...

There have been signs that the Mueller investigation is about to drop bombs. With Flynn apparently turning state's evidence to save his son, the screws continue to tighten on tRump and the remainder of his inner circle. He seems to know it, and is in full "fuck it!" mode:
Again and again, Trump veered far past the guardrails of presidential behavior. But despite the now-routine condemnations, the president is acting emboldened, as if he were impervious to the uproar he causes.

If there are consequences for his actions, Trump does not seem to feel their burden personally. The Republican tax bill appears on track for passage, putting the president on the cusp of his first major legislative achievement. Trump himself remains the highest-profile man accused of sexual improprieties to keep his job with no repercussions.

Trump has internalized the belief that he can largely operate with impunity, people close to him said. His political base cheers him on. Fellow Republican leaders largely stand by him. His staff scrambles to explain away his misbehavior — or even to laugh it off. And the White House disciplinarian, chief of staff John F. Kelly, has said it is not his job to control the president.

Some think he may even get more outrageous, which is hard to imagine. Others are saying we are moving in the direction of fascism:
Klaas, the author of “The Despot’s Accomplice: How the West is Aiding & Abetting the Decline of Democracy,” said the White House press secretary had given an “Orwellian” response to questions about those anti-Muslim videos Trump retweeted from a British fascist.

“Sarah Huckabee Sanders says it doesn’t matter if it’s true, what’s true is what the president says,” Klaas said.

He said what’s happening now in the United States lines up with the early stages of authoritarian regimes he’s studied in other countries.

“These things are happening on a daily basis,” Klaas said. “What I’ve been trying to say for a long time is, this is not a drill. This is not the thing where we move on to the next story tomorrow. This is a threat to our democracy and to the core values we stand for.

Some have suggested that the sudden "outbreak" of traditionally left-wing celebrities and politicians being accused of inappropriate sexual behavior is meant to be a distraction from tRump. If so, it has worked well. The media and consumers of news are wallowing in a pit of salacious mud, while a madman slowly pushes us closer and closer to the brink.

I'm extremely cranky lately, tho it's more because of the issue with my cable right now.

Meanwhile, in the UK...

A Labour MP has branded Donald Trump "either racist, incompetent, unthinking or all three" during an urgent debate on the President's promotion of Britain First on Twitter.

I feel like we are being held hostage by this madman and his party.

Again I am forced to wonder when and if the Joint Chiefs will "Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies both foreign and domestic", as their Oaths say they must.

OK, with a day off I'm headed out into the wilds of retail.

I pulled out my old camera, and have decided to take the leap. Going to see what digital body they'll all fit on. (Canon).

I'm headed for an actual camera store, none of that online crap.

Well I guess I'm on bad terms with the new company that owns our building now.

They'll find out just how bad when I submit the bill for rewiring my cable service with my rent check.

Republicans have a math problem with their tax "reform"

And can we please stop repeating the Republican framing of this as "Reform"? It's anything but.

So, camera shopping was successful - a Canon Digital Rebel T7i to replace my old 2000 (film). This is Christmas "for the house".

I also managed to quickly go online and finish up Mrs. TriSec this afternoon, too.

Javi is getting an "experience" this year - we're overnighting in NYC, all First-Class.

Mrs. TriSec and I have gone with a new ring - she smashed her engagement ring years ago, and after 6 months of shopping jewelers, we were unable to get it repaired, so she's getting a new one instead.

No, there is no renewing of vows involved. I'm sorry - we got it right the first time.
