Russian Roulette
Author: BobR    Date: 2018-03-15 13:03:44

It seems like something out of James Bond movie - a former Russian spy (and his daughter) were poisoned in London. It turns out it was done via a very lethal nerve gas, and British prime minister Theresa May is not having it:
Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain expelled 23 Russian diplomats on Wednesday over the poisoning of a former Russian spy on British soil, raising tensions between the two countries to a level not seen since the heights of the Cold War. She vowed to crack down on Russian spies, corrupt elites and ill-gotten wealth in Britain.

Her statement to Parliament came after Moscow rejected a British deadline for Russia to explain itself over this month’s attack on the former spy, Sergei V. Skripal, and his daughter.

Tuesday night, another Russian expat was found dead in his London home. As of this writing, there is no official cause of death. The coincidences are certainly alarming.

What's crazy is how often the Russian government knocks off people they consider inconvenient. In 2012, the U.S. Congress passed the Magnitsky Act in response to the murder of accountant Sergei Magnitsky (investigating government corruption) in a Russian prison. That act contained sanctions, which tRump is trying to roll back to help his best bud Putin.

So how often does this happen? A friend on Facebook (can't remember who she was, or I'd give credit. I was in a hurry when I copied this, and didn't note the author) compiled this list of dead Russians and Russian-adjacents.

These are already pretty well-known:

  • November 8, 2016 (Trump's election day): Sergei Krivov. Russian head of security at the Russian consulate in NY. Plunged to his death from the roof of the consulate.

  • December 26, 2016: Oleg Erovinkin. Russian FSB high official. Believed to have been a source for Christopher Steele on Trump dossier. Found dead in his car.

  • February 20, 2017: Vitaly Churkin. Russian rep for UN. Dropped dead at work. Unknown causes.

  • March 2, 2017 - Alex Oronov. This guy is Michael Cohen's brother's father in law. He was the guy that put together that "peace plan" with Cohen, Felix Sater (mobster with ties to Trump) and Ukrainian gov official/ mobster Andre Artemenko. We don't know how he died.

  • August 23, 2017 - Mirgayas Shirinsky. Ambassador to Sudan. Drowned in his own pool

Here are a few lesser-known murders:

  • May 2016: Matthew Puncher. UK investigator into Litvinenko's murder and a polonium expert. Stabbed to death in his London home.

  • July 20, 2016: Pavel Sheremet. Journalist. Friend of assassinated opposition leader Boris Nemtsov. Putin critic. Car bomb.

  • March 16, 2017: Yevgeny Khamaganov. Journalist. Putin critic. Beaten to death.

  • March 23, 2017: Denis Voronenkov. Russian MP who escaped to Ukraine after being critical of Putin. Shot to death.

  • March 31, 2017: Alexander Kharaberyush. Ukrainian intel chief. Putin critic. Car bomb.

  • April 19, 2017: Nikolai Andrushchenko. Journalist. Putin critic. Beaten to death.

  • June 5, 2017: Vladimir Shcherbakov. Russian expat in London. Russia had a corruption case against him, led by Litvinenko's alleged killer. He was found hanged by a fancy snakeskin belt.

  • June 27, 2017: Yuriy Voznyi. Ukrainian military leader, Putin critic. Car bomb

  • June 27, 2017: Maxim Shapoval. Ukrainian intel officer. Putin critic. Car bomb.

  • October 24, 2017: Alexei Strogano. Russian opposition leader. Putin critic. beaten with a lead pipe.

  • November 2, 2017: Serhiy Samarskiy. Russian council member who was openly critical of Putin. Found with a smashed in skull.

  • November 8, 2017: Timofey Kurayev. Politician in Crimea investigating corruption (by Russians government officials). Found dead at home.

  • January 28, 2018: Konstantin Sinitsin. Opposition leader. Putin critic. Beaten to death.

It's a dangerous gig to be a Russian who either knows too much or criticizes Putin. I expect this will continue as Meuller's web tightens. The corrupt self-serving Russian oligarchy wants to keep itself in power and in the rubles. Permanently silencing anyone who might hinder that is part of the process.

the ramblings of a madman:

We do have a Trade Deficit with Canada, as we do with almost all countries (some of them massive). P.M. Justin Trudeau of Canada, a very good guy, doesn’t like saying that Canada has a Surplus vs. the U.S.(negotiating), but they do...they almost all do...and that’s how I know!

Good morning. Have a day shift today. I do hope what Malcolm Nance says comes true because it seems like tRump surrounding himself with more sycophants is going to make things worse.

Good morning bloggers!!

I have to presume that the deaths of anyone tied to Putin are far from accidental.

We had some students walk out yesterday. I think that the NRA is more worried than it has been in some time.

Putin's assassins aren't subtle at all, are they? Where's the panache of the Soviet era covert assassinations? Where's the ricin BB injected into a person's leg with a spring loaded injector in the tip of an umbrella? Now that is subtle. But then, Putin doesn't think he needs to subtle.

Putin may be so brazen in his actions because he is sending a message to his enemies: oppose me and die.

I know my HS (in 1985) had one of those "boards of education", I was horrified to be told this by new friends when we moved to NC from PA.

this is insane!
George Nader, an international fixer whose long history included intrepid back-channel mediation between Israel and Arab countries — and a 15-year-old pedophilia conviction in Europe that has not been previously reported — was transiting through Dulles International Airport outside Washington.

It was hardly his first far-flung journey to see top aides of the world’s most powerful leader, as Nader had met the U.S. president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and chief strategist Steve Bannon in the days before they stormed the White House.

But he encountered an altogether different scene awaiting him at the airport.

There, special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators stopped Nader, people familiar with the case said. His electronics were seized and he was then allowed to go to his lawyer. Nader later agreed to cooperate with Mueller’s investigation, said the people with knowledge of the case as it pertains to Nader. They weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the case and demanded anonymity.

But wait, there is more!

Nader’s connections with Trump confidants include Elliott Broidy, a top Republican fundraiser who co-hosted a Tuesday night event attended by the president in Beverly Hills, California.

Earlier this month, several media organizations, including the AP, obtained emails belonging to Broidy, a California-based venture capitalist and the Republican National Committee’s deputy finance chairman. They show Broidy emailing Nader with a summary of Broidy’s talks with Kushner and Trump in the White House in October 2017, touching on matters including the UAE’s bitter dispute with fellow Persian Gulf country Qatar.

This sounds totally f*cked up.

According to media reports and video from the scene, people and several cars are trapped in the rubble. FIU media releases say the bridge weighs 950 tons. The Miami Herald reported at least eight people had been transported to the trauma center at Kendall Regional Medical Center.

FIGG Bridge Engineers, the company that designed the project, told New Times today that the company does "not have any information about that project." Construction began in 2017, but the bridge was not expected to open for pedestrian use until 2019. FIGG was responsible for the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay.

FIU tweeted out video of the bridge "swinging" into place only five days ago — FIU press materials noted the construction method was designed to allow the structure to be assembled as quickly as possible.

"This technique reduced potential risks to workers, commuters and pedestrians and prevented traffic tie-ups in the area," the university wrote.
