First things first. If you haven't had a chance, please check out Tri's Bog from Saturday. We were out of the house on Saturday marching at the DC #KeepFamiliesTogether gathering. between the reason we walked and Tri's blog, I think it sums up the current States of America.

The status isn't good. The next few weeks are going to be rough. I try to prepare for Mondays as best I can and sometimes that means I can't write anything. With that in mind, I need to share a story that is as stupid as is in terrible. Over the weekend Axios released a leaked draft of a proposed bill from the current administration.
"It would be the equivalent of walking away from the WTO and our commitments there without us actually notifying our withdrawal," said a source familiar with the bill.

    • "The good news is Congress would never give this authority to the president," the source added, describing the bill as "insane."

    • "It's not implementable at the border," given it would create potentially tens of thousands of new tariff rates on products. "And it would completely remove us from the set of global trade rules."
That the terrible part. Can I tell you about the stupid, idiotic, and downright dumb part?

The bill is called the United States Fair and Reciprocal Tariff Act.

I shit you not, it's the FaRT Act. Perhaps that does describe the States of America. And they said he was a genius at branding.

It's gonna be dangerously hot out today, stay hydrated and keep as cool as you can. Happy Monday!

&

Raine

Greetings, comrades!

Although we are unlikely to encounter any icebergs on this day, Javi and I are taking our kayaks out for the maiden voyage today. Wish us luck.

And then I wasn't sure what was still in my flask, so I had to taste it at this hour to make a determination. (It's Scotch, but I don't remember what kind.)

Good morning bloggers!!!

As for the Trump regime, I think that the FaRT act is typical of many proposals from him and reminds me of a quote from Macbeth: "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury and signifying nothing." (Okay, Shakespeare had Macbeth say this about life but this part of the quote does seem to apply to many Trump proposals.)

Raine, I appreciated the links from last week. However, neither local conservative with whom I interact listened. One got rude and I decided to unfriend him. Neither produced facts and the rude one accused me of implying that Trump was responsible for the newspaper shooting in Maryland.

I have a phone interview today. So, we will see what becomes of it.

This weekend, while I joined in the thousands protesting Trump immigration policies, we may have missed some news from Mexico. Here is what the Huffington Post is reporting.

Mexico Elects Leftist Andrés Manuel López Obrador In Landslide
He has promised to rein in corruption and fight rampant poverty in the country.

By Nick Visser

Mexico elected leftist candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador in a landslide victory on Sunday, according to exit polls showing the former mayor with double-digit leads over his competitors.

López Obrador, 64, mounted his third bid for the presidency with promises to rein in widespread corruption and fight poverty within the country. A former mayor of Mexico City, he will replace current President Enrique Peña Nieto and has promised to upend traditional party politics.

......

López Obrador, also known as AMLO, has won mass appeal among the populace with sweeping promises to sell the presidential plane, cut his salary if elected and bolster the wages of the civil servants. He’s also pledged to save some $20 billion a year by combatting corruption, money that would be diverted to social programs, although it’s unclear where that figure comes from, according to The New York Times.

His victory represents a resounding defeat for Peña Nieto’s ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, which has lost popularity in recent years amid turmoil with President Donald Trump. All of the candidates had lambasted the American leader, but López Obrador has stressed the need to work with the United States, saying that the countries would “have to come to an agreement.”

“We are going to maintain a good relationship,” López Obrador told the Times last month. “Or rather, we will aim to have a good bilateral relationship because it is indispensable.”

Despite this quote, I imagine that Trump is not happy with this election.

I may or maynot have created a Monday stub (ok I did). Can someone delete that for me? Pretty please. With sugar on top...

And, I wanna add, this practice should be illegal

it should be illegal for a spouse to make profit because her husband is a publicly elected official.

Malanie is not a part of pop culture.
