CoS John Kelly is out. Nick Ayers (CoS to VP Pence) isn't taking the job.

He's going back to Georgia to help raise his triplets according to many sources. He's also joining a MAGAPAC.
Sources said Ayers would work with the super PAC set up to assist the president’s reelection campaign. News that Ayers would not take the chief of staff job was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Trump had previously spoken with Ayers about the top administration job and had settled on him as Kelly’s likely replacement, the president’s advisers said.

But Ayers, who has young children, had insisted on serving temporarily, which frustrated Trump, who had wanted a replacement to stay on through 2020.

Ayers was also skeptical of taking the job based on the challenges that Kelly and his predecessor, Reince Priebus, faced in the position, and talks between the two sides broke down, according to an administration official with direct knowledge of the negotiations.

There is this, from the NYT.
Other factors may also have weighed on Mr. Ayers. His ascension to the top West Wing job would have meant newfound scrutiny of his personal finances — last year he reported a net worth of $12.2 million to $54.8 million, a sizable sum for a political operative in his 30s who has amassed his own fortune. He accumulated his wealth partly through a web of political and consulting companies in which he has held ownership stakes.

Perhaps Ayers doesn't want the extra scrutiny that one would expect when there is such a sudden jump in wealth.

Happy Monday! (??)

and

Raine

Mornin' all...

Started playing FF4 (the remake Steam version) over the weekend

I didn't know that if you wipe at the beginning before you get a chance to save the game, it makes you watch the entire sequence of UNSKIPPABLE opening cutscenes again.
I wiped 5 times. On stream.

well, this is a pleasant surprise.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to review lower court decisions that blocked efforts in two states to end public funding to Planned Parenthood, refusing for now to get involved in state battles over abortion rights.

The cases did not touch on abortion itself, but three justices who said the court should have accepted the cases said that was the reason the court declined to get involved.

“What explains the court’s refusal to do its job here? I suspect it has something to do with the fact that some respondents in these cases are named ‘Planned Parenthood,’” wrote Justice Clarence Thomas.

He was joined by Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Neil M. Gorsuch. But it takes four justices to accept a case, and two other of the court’s conservatives, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh did not join Thomas’s opinion.

Whelp.

Butina is accused of trying to infiltrate Republican political circles and party leaders during the 2016 campaign in order to advance Russian interests, and prosecutors have said the former American University student was in touch with politically powerful Russians about her activities in the US.

Her attorneys and prosecutors on Monday filed a two-page request for a "change of plea" hearing as soon as Tuesday.
