Whelp, for good or bad, the Olympics have finally opened. To no cheering crowds and COVID on the rise. And well, it being Japan and all, you just knew they were going to have some Kawaii cuteness as their mascots.

Meet Miraitowa and Someity, 20201 mascots for the Olympics and Paralympics. Created by artist Ryo Taniguchi. Miraitowa's name is a combination of "future" (mirai) and "eternity" (towa), a name " chosen to promote a future full of eternal hope in the hearts of people all over the world". Someity is names for a type of cherry blossom tree and means "so mighty". I'm sure if you're going to be watching the games you will see them many times over the course of the events.

Sending lots of prayers, healthy vibes and positive energy to all those participating.

Have a great weekend everyone and please stay safe.

Mala

Good morning.

As I often note - I attended the Montreal Olympics as a wee lad in 1976. I have loved the games ever since. I didn't watch last night - and have barely acknowledged the event at all this time.

It's quite the shitshow.

And The Rude Pundit just noted on twitter that we have 100 athletes that are not vaccinated, so we have already won the Gold Medal for stupidity and ignorance.

Let the games begin!

I'll be off for a busman's day in the City of Boston in a few minutes. Hoping to get a tour of the state house grounds, and I'm holding timed tickets for the African Meetinghouse on Beacon Hill - part of the lesser known Black Heritage Trail in this city.

Count me in as the odd Bostonian that likes Quincy Market - I'll probably end up there later, although I have it in my head to go to the Union Oyster House this afternoon and get a plate of raw mollusks.

Good morning, bloggers!!!!

I am home from my vacation to Los Angeles, which was a lot of fun!!!

I question why we are still having the Olympics. I fully expect to hear news of COVID-19 infections. I imagine that there will be a lot of second-guessing as we go through the Olympics.

All Tokyo needs is for a Titan attack to really make these Olympics a success.

Felt it appropriate to add gratuitous anime reference.

I am quite pleased touring in Boston today. My city made me happy - the last time I saw it before I went back to touring, it made me sad. That simply will not do.
