Monday Question -- About apologies.
Author: Raine    Date: 05/14/2012 13:05:08

Quick question for this Monday Morning -- Would you rather have a President who fessed up and said I am sorry for something really stupid in the past, or would you rather have a man say "I am sorry if I hurt anyone but I don't remember the incident"?

Who would you respect more? Who would you find more trustworthy? For example, from 2000:
Texas Gov. George W. Bush acknowledged Thursday that in 1976 he was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol near his parents' home in Kennebunkport, Maine.Bush, who was 30 at the time, pleaded guilty, paid a $150 fine and his driving privileges were temporarily suspended in Maine.

Compare to this:
“I’m not going to be too concerned about their piece they talk about the fact that I played a lot of pranks in high school and they describe some that well you just say to yourself, back in high school well I did some dumb things and if anybody was hurt by that or offended obviously I apologize but overall high school years were a long time ago,” said Romney in an interview on Kilmeade and Friends radio show about his years at the Cranbook School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Is it apples and oranges? What do you think? Does one incident tell us that much about a person? Or does the way they handle the aftermath, and the apology tell us about the person? I am aware that people make mistakes, but at what point do we look at how they handle those mistakes and judge? These are people who ran for the most powerful office in the country -- do these things matter?

Or, is it a case where --as Maya Angelou once said, “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.” ?...
