You remember that song, right? It was sung by a band called Barenaked Ladies. according to the songs wiki page:
It was first conceived as a simple improvised song while Page and Robertson were counsellors at a summer music camp. On the way home from camp, Robertson played the tune for the campers, randomly listing amusing things he would buy with a million dollars.
Ah, good fun. A camp song about dreaming of better fortunes.

football IS gay

Well, your very own Velveeta was all set to write about late nights thrilling ABC News Republican Presidential Debate in Iowa, number 84 in a lineup of 673,992 total debates before we can actually vote on one of them, but then I found an interesting little blog about football.

Now, as you know, I loathe the sport. Politics is more my beat, because it's sexier. But last nights debate was a virtual snooze-fest. Poor George Stephonoplolologuspus just couldn't hold it together and asked the dullest questions ever. The only highlights included Mittens offering a pocket-change wager of $10,000 to Rick Perry (Perry turned him down), Camera 4 picking up Mrs. Marcus Bachmann shedding a tear as her wife talked about their strong marriage (methinks Marcus was crying because he realized that Michelle perhaps needed a tad more glitter on her décolletage) and Rick Santorum practically turning into a frothy, gooey, puddle onstage due to his nervousness. At one point in the debate he actually started making 'clucking' sounds.

War Dead

Good Morning.

We Americans are a curious lot. It has been said of us that we'll give you the shirt off our backs just for the asking...but if provoked, we shall show a wrath like no other.

We've had a long history of wrath; our country born in war, seems to have continued that tradition down through the ages. But we're not going to look at war from our point of view today. Nay...we'll be looking through enemy eyes.

The Gingrich Who Stole Childhoods

In a campaign year full of surprises, perhaps one of the biggest surprises is the resurgence of Newt Gingrich. While it's true he hadn't peaked yet like the other candidates that have risen to the top, only to fall again, he was all but written off months ago. Now that he's the new darling, he is getting a lot more "face time" with the press. Of course, this means he also has been given more opportunities to stick his foot in it, and boy has he.

It's not like he came into this untainted. He was run out of the House for ethics violations. He's had two affairs (that we know of) and three wives. He has a bad habit of shifting money from his non-profits into his own pockets.

With the recent "suspension" of Cain's campaign (translation: I'll still take donations, and if everyone else melts down, I may step back in), there are 4 candidates left that have not peaked and then cratered. Despite being written off months ago as a non-entity in the race, he is now considered the front runner, thanks to the "anybody but Romney" mindset of the Republican primary voters. If past history is any indication, he too will experience a spiral into the abyss within a week or two.

How to Occupy or Not?

As I mentioned in yesterdays blog comments, there was a bit of a kerfluffle at Occupy DC yesterday. Apparently those at the McPherson square encampment decided in the wee hours of Sunday morning to build what they called a People's Pavilion:

News you Need

After much speculation about how much damage Ginger White would do to the Herman Cain Train, we waited with baited breath for him to appear from behind the shoddily hung black curtain in front of his beautiful new campaign HQ in Atlanta. Many people came out to speak about how wonderful Herman is as well as to make sure the audience was appropriately patriotic. Mr. Cain emerged from a bus that had a picture his overly large head plastered on to it; a bus that he may be using in his near future to either hit the Senior circuit RV parks with, or, to sleep in his driveway in. His wife, Gloria, was with him at his side. She is either subtly pulling the strings or she is as dumb as a turnip. The music was over the top; some original song that combined God and America and Freedom and Herman Cain all into one large lump of doughy, overly sweet, nutty cupcake.

Once he got to the podium and once the stoned sound tech got around to killing the song, Herman addressed the crowd which was about the size drawn at a used car lot that had a Saturday tent sale and featured a clown.
