Good morning.

It's at last funerary weekend. Not much happening today; the main event is tomorrow afternoon and Monday morning. I'll be doing a lot of ironing today, but that's about all.

From Soup to Nuts
Author: BobR    Date: 10/19/2012 12:32:16

There is a certain inherent phoniness in political campaigns. Incumbents try to sell the highpoints of their records and hide the mistakes. Newcomers try to show they are ready to compete on the Big Stage. The rich and the powerful try to show they are just "regular folk" by staging "photo ops" in factories, diners, schools, and public parks.

Post-Debate Part Deux
Author: BobR    Date: 10/17/2012 12:41:57

Anyone who harbored doubts about President Obama's ability (and/or willingness) to take on Mitt Romney at the 2nd debate had those doubts washed away in the first 15 minutes. The president relentlessly pointed out the lies in Romney's statements and lack of specifics in his platforms. Romney's frustration was palpable, and desperation pushed him to be rude and overtly aggressive to the moderator and the President.

In fact, it wasn't so much about the good points that President Obama made - there were no real surprises there. The debate seemed to be more about how badly Mitt Romney did. President Obama came prepared to compare his record and plans against Romney's and Romney didn't like it. As the evening wore on, Romney became more desperate and frustrated, and it showed. He interrupted and disrespected both the moderator (Candy Crowley) and Obama. The end result was a contrast between a cool and collected president and a jackass.

The Trouble with Real ID and Voter ID Laws
Author: clintster    Date: 10/15/2012 11:21:19

It started as just another Saturday morning. My wife and I were driving to the DMV to have her driver’s license renewed. She had actually gone to renew in July, but because she didn’t have a birth certificate, she was given a temporary license while her home state sent it to her. She was aware that our state’s laws had changed and we needed more documents to renew, but as we arrived at the DMV, we would see just how far the rabbit hole went.

Obama's Facts: Are They Real?
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 10/14/2012 15:20:47

You decide. I'm just asking the question like any good "journalist" would.

Obama claims that he was born in America in some city called Hawaii (sometimes spelled Hawai'i which sounds awfully muslim-ie dontcha think)? He has repeatedly tried to prove to important people like Donald Trump, Mitt Romney and Jeff Foxworthy that he is indeed an American and that this Hawaii city is for real, but most remain skeptical.

We are all Americans

Good Morning....come with me on a bit of a journey today.

We'll start in Sicily, about 1908. A devastating earthquake levelled the city of Messina. Somehow, my 14-year-old great grandmother Angelina survived.

The following year, she boarded a ship to Ellis Island, New York...and made her way north to Boston, although not to the North End. She settled in the somewhat grittier East Boston, which was a working port and would eventually become part airport.

The Bidening
Author: BobR    Date: 10/12/2012 12:54:32

There was a lot of pressure on both candidates heading into last night's vice-presidential debate. Ryan need to appear presidential. Biden needed to purge the ghosts of the previous presidential debate. Knowing Joe, it promised to be a lively debate, and it certainly did not disappoint.

It was apparent into Ryan's first answer that Joe wasn't holding anything back. Where Ryan was attempting to maintain a steeley facade, Biden was the definition of animated. From smiles and laughs to exasperated gapes, he was rarely still. He also occassionally interrupted Ryan when Ryan told a particularly aggregious whopper.
