The Cain Affair
Author: BobR    Date: 11/30/2011 13:51:40

It must be difficult to be a political candidate, especially on a national level. You have hopes and ideals, but you're also only human. You get up in front of everyone and try to make your points, but all those skeletons in your closet keep opening the door and stepping out into the harsh light of the media cameras, and before you know it, everyone is digging for dirt, seeing just what else is there.

For political parties, there is a process called "vetting", where they ask the candidate to come clean and then try to come up with explanations ahead of time (should the dirt go public), or advise the candidate that they have a poor chance. With the latest allegation against Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, one has to really wonder how forthcoming he was during that process.

The Monday After
Author: Raine    Date: 11/28/2011 13:40:35

While everyone settles back into the beginning of a normal work week, I'll be over here writing a blog with some teeth.

I'm still trying to get over the breaking news this morning that the Caps fired their head coach, Bruce Boudreau and replaced him with a fellow named Dale Hunter.

.... Shaking me head....

Smart like a Fox
Author: velveeta jones    Date: 11/27/2011 14:21:38

Yet another poll is out telling us how uninformed me and my friends who watch Fox News are. I don't understand how they are not getting the info?! Fox is known for its fabulous breaking-news "Sting", bright flashing lights and graphics that are hypnotic (in red, white and blue, no less), and perky straight-as-a-metal-rod-up-their-ass talking heads who look at us sternly so as to get our attention. If that is not enough, there are headlines scrolling below and sometimes on the side of our screen.

So how can Fox viewers still not be getting the information?

Good Morning.

If you were with us yesterday, you know about the carnage that ensued after many stores opened at stupid o'clock to kickoff the holiday greed shopping season.

Black Friday - Stop the Insanity
Author: BobR    Date: 11/25/2011 14:11:44

The day after Thanksgiving has traditionally been a big shopping day, as it is the "official" start of the Christmas season. I remember as a young teenager with a paper route, I hated that day because it was the fattest paper of the year with all the sale ads. This is the day that all the big sales begin.

Supposedly, the term began to be used in the mid-60s in Philadelphia to describe the traffic snarls. It began to spread beyond Philly in the 70s. Even in the mid 80s it wasn't well known, although by that time the name was being attributed to retailers' bottom lines moving from the red into the black.

The Time Has Come
Author: BobR    Date: 2011-11-23 13:00:00

First they ignore you,
then they laugh at you,
then they fight you,
then you win.
- Mohandas Gandhi

An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come.
- Victor Hugo

It seems like it's been forever since we first heard about a small group of protesters camping out in the middle of the Wall Street district. In reality, it's been a little over 2 months. In that very short time (in political movement terms), they have galvanized the planet, touching off similar movements in other cities and other countries. Their approach - strange to the minds of most people used to traditional governance models refined through centuries of trial, error, and enlightenment - brought uncertainty and bewilderment to those outside the encampments. What were their goals? Who were their leaders? How did the plan to make these changes happen?

Strangely, it seemed their only goals were to make their grievances heard. No demands, no lobbying congresspeople... Eventually, some demands WERE forthcoming (such as reinstating Glass-Steagall, and other financial reforms in the interests of economic justice), but for the most part, their purported purpose was to get people to think and to open their eyes.

As it became clear that the protesters were not going to get bored and leave, the power hierarchy (both political and financial) got nervous. Ignoring them was not proving fruitful, and was becoming harder to do as the size and quantity of encampments grew. Ridiculing them and infiltrating them with agents provocateur was also useless, as the groupthink was not susceptable to provocation.

That left the only response that they knew how to use - violence.

The Four Freedoms are Ours to Fight For.

First for a little background: This blog was built upon the ideas of the Four Freedoms set forth but Franklin Delano Roosevelt. If you don't believe me, let me take you to our Mission Statement.

We take these Four Freedoms very seriously. As a reminder, they are:
