Hot Gas and Santorum - is that the ticket?
Author: BobR    Date: 03/14/2012 12:43:42

Three more states participated in the primary process last night. What isn't surprising is that Mitt Romney lost both Alabama and Mississippi. After his tone-deaf pandering with comments about "y'all" and "cheesey grits", he's lucky they didn't drag him from the bumper of a pickup truck to the state's border.

No, what's surprising is that Newt Gingrich couldn't pull a victory out of Alabama. Despite it bordering his declared "home state", and being the only other candidate besides Ron Paul with any real southern credentials, he lost it to a "yankee" from Pennsylvania. You'd think he'd be humbled or discouraged. But no, we're talking Newt, whose beltline is surpassed only by his ego. He sees no reason to get out now:

Today's Doonesbury may not be running in your local paper today, as it is considered too far past the line of good taste for some editorial boards. In the age of the internets, I find this funny, sad and futile. I am posting it here.

Good Morning.

I'll soon be off to Mill Pond in Burlington, MA to lead another hike for Mr. Bean. I'm glad I can today....you might have heard that scouting is dangerous business. I managed to fall down a hill on the way to Roundtable Thursday night.

Please make a note...penny loafers don't behave the same way as hiking boots.

In any case, it's been a rather busy week. I'm feeling a bit out of touch today, and in skimming the nets this morning, I've seen a few interesting things, but they've already made their way into this week of blog.

So....we'll just pick and choose.

Have you all heard about the American Gestapo that's been operating in New York City? Both the Mayor and the Police chief are claiming that the lack of an attack is due to the success of the program. Success is relative, I guess. As long as you're not afraid of black cars in the middle of the night, it's great.

Sorry for the dearth of our usual brilliant political analysis this week - we had a family emergency that caught us off-guard. We will be back on our game next week. In the meantime, enjoy this little bit of schadenfreud:

So many sponsors have dropped him, that the Rush Limbaugh show is broadcasting dead air during the commercial breaks

According to Media Matters’ count, at least 48 advertisers had cancelled their ads by Thursday afternoon.

Limbaugh played the controversy down on Wednesday, telling listeners that “everything’s cool.”

“Nobody is losing money here, including us, in all this,” he said. “[The advertisers] are not canceling the business on our stations. They’re just saying they don’t want their spots to appear in my show. We don’t get any revenue from ‘em anyway. The whole effort is to dispirit you.”

Have a Happy Fridee!!

I've really not got much to say today. These two stories appeared as succesive clicks at Stars and Stripes. Just read them and think about it.

I'm Sorry, Rush / Rush, I'm sorry

“It’s in his best interest, that’s why he did it,” Paul said. “I don’t think he’s very apologetic. He’s doing it because some people were taking advertisements from his program. It was his bottom line he was concerned about.”
Inspired and nuanced analysis from Ron Paul on the apology from Rush Limbaugh on Saturday. The apology came after 6 sponsors stated that they would no longer advertise on his show. Late yesterday, ProFlowers became #7.
